Liepaja University is glad to announce the beggining of the implementation of the project “The establishment and development of new media art education in Liepaja”. The project is financed by the Europe Economic Area and Norwegian bilateral Financial mechanism. Co-financing (4.9%) is provided by Liepaja City Council. Project sum total – 748 892 EUR. Project manager – Atis Eglins-Eglitis.
This autumn new media art students will begin their studies at the new premises located in the basement of Kurmajas prospekts 13 with adequate equipment, techonolgies and other resources. After the reconstruction the premises will be equipped with:
- photo studio 'from analogue to digital'
- experimental sound studio
- media lab
- publicly accessible experiment space for presenting works and communicating for students, guest artists, researchers
- mediateque and equipped lecture/workshop/discussion space
- study and recreation space
Within the following days an international working group will begin to develop a master degree study programme in new media art. The MA studies will be launched in 2010.
Within the project the teaching staff of new media art study programme will have the opportunity to go on experience exchange trips to other universities and other institutions in Europe. Professional development courses and seminars will be organised during the following years. Various internationally recognized lecturers will be involved in the study programme.
The cultural life as well as the creative industries of Liepaja city and region will greatly benefit from the project. The project will be implemented from 30th of March, 2009 until 30th of April, 2011.
